Acupuncture & Tui Na Therapy Clinic
Moxa is made from the dried and aged leaves of the Chinese Mugwort plant, which is a plant renowned for its warming properties. Moxibustion is the burning of this herb for therapeutic purposes. It is a pleasant and soothing addition to your treatment, where it is usually used alongside Acupuncture, as it has been for thousands of years.
It can be used to strengthen the immune system, warm the body, and increase the flow of blood and Qi to an area. It is useful in the treatment of some types of pain, and is quite effective at turning breach babies.
The application of it during a treatment will be wither direct or indirect. It most commonly involves the use of a moxa stick (long cigar-like stick, with heat emanating from one end) being held near specific areas, but may also involve small rolls of moxa being placed on the end of a needle or cones of moxa sitting on top of slices of ginger or a mound of salt.
